Altoona Citizen Visioning Advisory Council (CVAC)

The Altoona Citizen Visioning Advisory Council, a group consisting of volunteers within the Altoona community, was formed in November, 2004. The committee was charged with overseeing the visioning process in planning for the future of Altoona.

The committee has four goals:

  1. To ensure the sustainability of the citizen visioning process beyond start-up
  2. To secure support for the ongoing citizen visioning process
  3. To devise and implement effective internal and external communications
  4. To develop effective marketing strategies

For several months, the CVAC committee provided oversight and assistance in planning focus groups, community forums and follow-up sessions. These informational meetings were designed to give community members the opportunity to contribute their ideas for the future of the city.

The informational meetings provided the CVAC committee with a number of potential issues and areas of interest that are important to the growth and sustainability of Altoona. Eventually, the committee decided which areas to focus on and three teams were formed to explore the topics. The topics included:

  1. Beautification
  2. A Large Event in Altoona
  3. Facilities/Activities to improve our quality of life.

More information about these teams and how to get involved follows.
