The 2009 Christmas Tree pick up will be the week of January 5, 2009 for all towns except WDM.

On October 20, 2008, the council approved a fuel surcharge to Artistic Waste Management for garbage removal services. The charge will be retroacted back to July 1, 2008. The November 15, 2008 Utility Bill will reflect a 76 cent charge. The following months bills will show a 19 cents surcharge.

If you are interested in developing leadership skills that can be put to good use in your neighborhood, church group, school's PTA or at the city level on various boards and commissions, be sure to apply for the Altoona Leadership Program. Scheduled to begin August 28, 2008, the Altoona Leadership Program (ALP) will begin taking applications July 1. All applications are due to City Hall no later than August 1, 2008. (Please click on the link below for an application, or a hard copy of the application is available at the front desk at City Hall, 407 8th Street SE)

Spearheaded by Mayor Burget, the goal of the Altoona Leadership Program is to create a pool of leaders to serve our community in a variety of ways. Whether it is at the City level, on Boards or Commissions, within the school system or at the grassroots level within your neighborhood or church, a city leader needs to understand the programs and services offered throughout the community and know how to mobilize a group of people to accomplish a project.
