[Altoona General] SNOW ORDINANCE

SNOW ORDINANCE

�

All vehicles MUST be off the streets anytime there is� an accumulation of 1 inch of snow or ice anywhere in the City, and remain off the street for 48 hours after the snow event subsides.

�

HOMEOWNER SNOW REMOVAL RESPONSIBILITIES

�

All sidewalks adjacent to your property are your responsibility.� All complaint calls will be referred to the Building Department for follow-up and code enforcement.

�

Snow placed on sidewalks by City plows where the sidewalk meets the street is the responsibility of the property owner to remove.� City snowplows will not clear private driveways except under emergency conditions and with the approval of the supervisor on duty.� The snow placed in your driveway by the city plows is your responsibility to remove.� Please do not move snow from your driveway into the street.

�

Clean around fire hydrants in your yard, so the Fire Department may have easy access to your hydrant in case there is a fire in your neighborhood.

�

Clean around mailboxes and be sure the mailboxes are properly installed behind the curb line to withstand snow clearing efforts by the City.� The City assumes no responsibility for mailboxes damaged during snow removal.

[Altoona General] Park Shelter Information

The permanent bathrooms located at Haines, Lion's and Village parks are closed for the season.� The City anticipates being able to open the bathrooms and provide portable bathrooms in the spring on approximately April 15, weather permitting.

Park shelter reservations for 2010 will begin on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.� Call Cindy at 967-5136 beginning January 12 for 2010 reservations.

[Altoona General] Recycling information

With the beginning of July, the new recycling program will begin.� Pick-up in Altoona will begin on Monday/Tuesday July 13/14.� Below are a few helpful reminders:

�� Use your new, green wheeled carts.� �The small, handheld 18-gallon bins will no longer be collected.

�� Collection is every other week.� The calendar sticker on the lid of the cart will help you remember which week is your collection week. �Just match the lid color to the key on the sticker.

�� Keep 3 feet between your new recycling cart and your garbage cart and yard bags so that the truck arm has room to grab and dump the carts.

�� The recycling sticker on the cart lists what can be recycled, or go to www.mwatoday.com for a more complete listing.
