Altoona now has eight parks with many new and bigger ones in the works. With 286 acres of existing parks and open space, Altoona offers a variety of locations to take the family out for a picnic or to get some fresh air.

Haines Park

Location: 3rd Avenue SE & 6th Street Place SE

Lions Park

Location: 13th Avenue & 4th St. SW

              • 2 Small open shelters

Sam Wise Youth Complex

Location: 8th Street SE & 8th Avenue SE

Features:
              • 7 Little league fields
              • 6 Girls softball fields
              • 2 Little Rams flag football fields
              • 7 Altoona soccer club fields
              • 3 Picnic shelters
              • Small playground area
              • Lighted ice skating rink
              • War memorial

Prairie Heritage Trail & Park

Location: Parking at 1st Avenue S, 210 Street SE, & Altoona Library at 700 8th Street SW

Features:
              • Trail 1.2 miles
              • Enabling garden
              • Vietnam & Korean War memorial
              • 2 Ponds with fish, ducks, & geese
              • 2 Native prairie grass & wildflower areas
              • Picnic tables & benches
              • Trail connects to Altoona Campus, Library, Lions Park, Pedestrian Bridge, 4 mile trail to Pleasant Hill, Altoona Aquatics & Skate Park

Greenway Park Shelter & Trail

Location: Parking at Adventureland Drive & 9th Avenue NW

Features:
              • Paved nature trail through trees
              • Picnic tables
              • Large pond with fish
              • Ducks & geese
              • Trail leads to Lions Park

Village Park

Location: 17th Avenue NW & 4th Street NW

Features:
              • New shelter
              • Two sand volleyball courts
              • Picnic tables
              • Playground area including new three-story play feature
              • Tennis courts
              • Half court basketball
              • New restroom facility

Phoenix Park

Location: 4th Street SW & 19th Avenue SW

Features:
              • Oval walking trail (1/3 mile)
              • Small picnic shelter
              • Benches & picnic tables
              • Play structures and climbing rocks
              • Backstop with greenspace

Eagle Ridge Park

Location: Brookview Drive & Timberline Lane

Features:
              • Greenspace
              • Trail connection from Eagle Ridge neighborhood to pedestrian bridge & Campus

Falcon Ridge Park

Location: 10th Avenue SE and 15th Street SE

Features:
              • Play equipment
              • On Falcon Ridge trail system
              • Bench and picnic table

17th Avenue Dog Park

Location: 17th Avenue SW, south of 8th Street SW

Features:
              • Drinking fountain
              • Benches
              • Approximately 1 acre fenced, off-leash play area
              • Dog waste station
