Weather permitting, the Altoona Fire Department will begin burning the storm debris pile on Monday morning, August 24th. Given the amount of debris that has been collected, and continues to be collected, this fire will be burning and smoldering for several days.
City crews began work on Monday clearing limbs and storm debris. One issue they have come across is piles placed on or near fire hydrants, mailboxes, signs, etc. Please move limbs and debris away from these structures. Your assistance will help speed up the clean up effort.
Official Storm Clean-up thread 1/2: 1) the brush drop off is open for residents that wish to haul their own tree debris - absolutely no contractors allowed. 2) city crews will begin curbside pickup next Monday the 17th, please have debris to curb by 6 AM.
