Altoona named Technology Community of the Year by the Technology Association of Iowa

The City of Altoona is honored to be recognized as the 2023 Technology Community of the Year by the Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) at its recent annual Prometheus Awards.

A panel of distinguished technology leaders from across the state chose Altoona for the recognition. We are proud to be home to leaders in technology of all sizes, including Meta and Lightedge Solutions. In addition, the city itself has focused on technological innovation, incorporating a fiber network to ensure all its city facilities are connected, and partnering with local and national organizations to secure grant funding for technology projects. A great example of such a partnership is the Maker Hub at the Altoona Library which opened earlier this year. The hub is home to several pieces of cutting edge technology, allowing library patrons to try their hands at programming, crafting and creating with this equipment.

Altoona is the sixth Iowa community to receive this award, joining previous winners Ames, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Iowa City and West Des Moines. Mayor Dean O'Connor accepted the award on behalf of the community at the Prometheus Awards on Nov. 2.
