Altoona voters choose new city council person

A run-off election, held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, filled the remaining seat on the Altoona City Council. Jerry Evans won the election with 468 votes and will join Julie Stewart as one of two new members on the city council in January 2024. Dean O’Connor ran unopposed for another term as mayor and was re-elected in the November election.

December 2023 run-off election results
Candidate Position Number of votes received
Jerry Evans City Council At Large 468
Vernon Willey II City Council At Large 226

To win a city council seat outright in the Nov. 7 election, a candidate needed to receive at least 1,189 votes. Only one candidate in that election, Julie Stewart, met that threshold. Because of this a run-off was held to fill the remaining open seat. See results from the November election by clicking here.
