Artist selection underway for Olde Town Altoona pocket park mural
Thank you to 66 artists from around the world who submitted applications to design a mural which will be the centerpiece of a new pocket park in Olde Town Altoona. We are blown away with the talented designs and examples submitted from artists hailing not only from Iowa and 15 other states, but from 6 countries outside of the United States as well. The selection committee and the Altoona Arts and Culture Commission are reviewing applications and will be finalizing their selection of an artist in the coming weeks. Artists will be notified by the Commission on the status of their submission once a selection is made.
Once an artist has been chosen and has accepted an offer to complete the mural, the Commission will share more on the project. That information will be shared here on the city’s website, as well as on City and Altoona Arts and Culture social media accounts.
Work on the park will begin this spring, and the mural is expected to be created this summer.
